UK MARKETING ACTIVITY

Autumn Winter Campaign

The Autumn Winter Campaign will be launched in October to encourage visitors to the region over the traditionally quieter months. The campaign will include inspirational brand-building and offer-led inserts in the Sunday Times Magazine, The Guardian Weekend, Daily Telegraph, Mail on Sunday; a new Autumn Winter microsite profiling the very best of the region in the build-up to Christmas; and special accommodation offers, driving overnight stays in the region December to March. Special Offer booking forms will be sent out over the forthcoming week to all inspected regional accommodation and provide a free opportunity to join this offer-led campaign. Touring Guides

We are currently working with EnjoyEngland and England’s North Country to finalise content for their respective 2007 Touring Guides. Both guides provide visitors with excellent tips on tour itineraries, attractions and places to stay – for all budgets. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNIT

On Course for Training

The new ‘Welcome to Excellence’ Autumn/Winter training programme is proving very popular with tourism businesses. The new programme includes the full range of Welcome to Excellence courses; Welcome Host, Welcome All and Welcome International. The Welcome Host Plus course is already fully booked, however additional courses can be arranged if demand continues. Also included in the new programme are courses on PR Matters, Smarter Marketing, VAQAS and Becoming Visible (deaf awareness training). Short-listed for Success

Short-listing for the 2006 North East England Tourism Awards is now complete and all details can be found on the www.tourismnortheast.co.uk website. Entrants have been short-listed for 16 separate awards and winners in 12 of the categories will automatically go on to represent North East England in the national 'Enjoy England Awards for Excellence' to be held in London in spring 2007. Winners of the regional awards will be revealed at a special evening dinner and award ceremony to be held at Newcastle Civic Centre on 10 October. VISITOR SERVICES UNIT

Desti.ne

The new version of Desti.ne DMS has provided more functionality and improved existing controls to allow better management of the regions Tourism product. The Regional Tourism Team have now been trained in using Desti.ne DMS with further training provisionally planned for the Area Tourism Partnerships, Tourist Information Centres and other Tourism organisations over the next few months.

Desti.ne Frontdesk continues to exceed expectation in terms of bookings and revenue generated. As of 26 September the business-testing phase has, without any direct marketing of the service, delivered booking to a total value of £12,340.50 for accommodation and £10,589 for attractions. Plans for engaging with the regions tourism businesses are well underway, which will give the opportunity for businesses to reap the benefits of Desti.ne Frontdesk.
