Tourism Marketing Update - 14.10.05

14th October 2005

Regional Tourism Awards

The North East England Tourism Awards, organised by One NorthEast, will reward the region's leading tourism individuals and organisations on the 19th October at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland.  Eighteen separate awards will be given out at the event, ranging from Best Bed and Breakfast and Best Hotel to the Best Family Experience and Visitor Pub of the Year.  Entries to this year's awards have topped all previous records and with all tickets for the event having been taken, the scene is set for an excellent night.

Autumn / Winter Campaign

Over 100 accommodation providers from all around the region have taken up the opportunity to be involved in this campaign.  Promotional activity includes inserts in key national publications, direct mail and email and reader offers in national and regional publications.  Activity will commence during October and will run through until the New Year. All the offers featured in this campaign will be shown on our website www.visitnortheastengland.co.uk/offers

Walking Campaign

Following the successful launch of the region's second walking guide in August, we have had over 8800 requests for the guide and over 80,000 unique visitors to the walking section of our website www.visitnorthumbria.com/walking as a direct result of our walking campaign media activity. There are presently 44,000 copies of the guide in circulation and with the media campaign still going strong we aim to distribute 80,000 copies in total.

2006 Group Guide

The regional Group Guide will be launched at the group travel roadshow being held at the City of Manchester Stadium on 28th October.  The guide features stunning new photography from around the region and aims to encourage group and trade operators to promote North East England as a destination.

2006 Short Break and Holiday Guide

There has been an excellent take up for the advertising opportunities in next year's Short Break and Holiday Guide.  The guide will feature a new range of stunning regional photography. Development of the guide is on track and will launch in December 2005.  We will print 180,000 copies.

2006 Education Guide

Production of the 2006 Education Guide is nearing completion and will be launched during November 2005. The guide is aimed at the education sector and links into the National Curriculum, offering itineraries and ideas that promote the region's varied attractions and destinations.

British Travel Trade Fayre

This event will be held in Birmingham on the 1st and 2nd March 2006.  We are currently developing plans for the NorthEast England stand and we will be contacting you shortly with details of how you can get involved.

Group Travel Roadshows

The first 2005 roadshow was held on 27th Sept at Newby Hall & Gardens. The event was a big success with 19 exhibitors from around the region and over 70 group and travel operators and professionals. The next events are at the City of Manchester Stadium on 28th October and then at the Tower Thistle in London on 5th December. We still have a small number of exhibitor places available - please contact Denise Wigham on 0191 229 6845.
