UK MARKETING ACTIVITY

Autumn Winter Campaign

The Autumn Winter Campaign, to be launched this month, is now in its final stages. If you are an inspected regional accommodation and would like to be included in the campaign, please return your Special Offer booking form by this coming Friday, 13 October.

The campaign will include inspirational brand-building and offer-led inserts in the Sunday Times Magazine, The Guardian Weekend, Daily Telegraph, Mail on Sunday; a new Autumn Winter microsite profiling the very best of the region in the build-up to Christmas; and special accommodation offers, driving overnight stays in the region December to March. INTERNATIONAL MARKETING ACTIVITY

VisitBritain PKE

The International team will host eight representatives from VisitBritain's UK and European offices from 12-15 October. Guided by Blue Badge guide Jan Williams the four-day tour will include visits to regional attractions and tourism businesses across North East England. The group will also meet Area Tourism Partners during their stay. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase North East England to VisitBritain, an organisation responsible for marketing Britain to the leisure and business tourism markets overseas.

TRAVEL TRADE ACTIVITY

Airedale Tours Group Event

North East England welcomed 100 Group Travel Organisers from the South of England. Organised in conjunction with Airedale Tours from Ossett in Yorkshire, one of the country's top tourism wholesalers, the visiting group took a whistle stop visit across the region's attractions, including NewcastleGateshead Quays, Alnwick Castle & The Alnwick Garden, Crook Hall & Gardens, Durham City, Sunderland, Hartlepool Maritime Experience and The Bowes Museum.

The event, supported by Area Tourism Partners and expertly guided by the region's Blue Badge Guides, aims to generate new and additional tourism business for North East England. For more information please contact Denise Wigham.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT UNIT

Tourism Performance Master Class

A Tourism Performance Master Class will be held at Kirkley Hall, Ponteland on 15 November 2006. The event will demonstrate how Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure businesses can increase their productivity through the use of on-line business performance tools to improve customer service, people management and meet regulations.

In the format of online demonstrations and access, the event will also include several Master Classes on improving business performance, measuring customer satisfaction and increasing profitability.

Tourism, Hospitality or Leisure businesses, with more than 5 staff and less than 250 staff, can register for the event for only £10. Attendees will be given FREE access to the demonstrated on-line business performance tools, available at http://www.people1st.co.uk/, with a value of more than £500. North East England Tourism Awards 2006

Held at Newcastle Civic Centre on Tuesday 10th October, this glittering black tie event was attended by over 300 guests who enjoyed an evening of dinner, awards and entertainment. Hosted by Wendy Gibson, the event was supported by VisitBritain, Dickinson Dees, Eviivo and Carrier Direct Marketing. Gold award winners in 12 of the categories now go forward to short listing for the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2007.

Desti.ne update

After successful completion of the Business Testing Phase, Desti.ne Frontdesk and Desti.ne Extranet are now being rolled out across the region. A leaflet explaining the online options available through Desti.ne have been distributed to all assessed Businesses in the region.

TOURISM DEVELOPMENT UNIT

Tourism shows its value

More than 9 million visitors headed for North East England in 2005, the equivalent of almost 4 times the region's own population. In addition to these overnight visitors, 75 million day visitors travelled to or within the region giving a total of 85 million visits.

These visitors spent a total of £3.4 billion while in the region, supporting more than 71,000 jobs (56,000 directly in the tourism industry).
