Travel feature in The Hindu – 7 January
Following a visit in 2006, photographer and travel writer D.K. Bhaskar has produced a fantastic article on North East England in The Hindu – a highly influential Indian newspaper with a daily circulation of over 1million.
The article particularly compliments the region’s unique landscape, wildlife; including grey seals and puffins, and natural vegetation - particularly the lichen population which can only flourish in an extremely unpolluted environment.
From September 2007, visitors from the Indian subcontinent will be able to reach North East England with relative ease following the announcement by Emirates of a new direct air route into Newcastle International Airport from Dubai.

Walking Guide and Passionate DVD used as key publications in high profile Latin American conferences
Dr. David Shephard, Associate Professor (and Geordie ex-pat) at a University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has been championing North East England in many high profile conferences including the British Council’s 10-day seminar on English as a Global Language and two TEFL (Teaching English Foreign Language) conferences reaching key practitioners from Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Peru and Venezuela.
The Walking Guide has also become a regular fixture in the University’s syllabus for students studying English Language and Applied Linguistics at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level, as a means of illustrating and analysing descriptive and non-fictional text.

VISITOR SERVICES UNIT
Call Goes Out for Online Images
Almost 90% of accommodation providers displayed on the regional visitor website, www.visitnortheastengland.com, now have at least one promotional image.
The accommodation providers with good quality images benefit from more effective promotion not only through the regional website but also through EnglandNet, www.visitbritain.com and www.enjoyengland.com.
It is also important to ensure these websites display images for other tourism businesses such as attractions and events. If you have quality promotional images that you want to submit for your attraction or event send your images to Jason Yip. Alternatively you can post your images to Jason at One NorthEast, Stella House, Goldcrest Way Newburn Riverside, Newcastle upon Tyne NE15 3NY.
