Groups Guide

The 2007 Groups Guide was launched recently at the first of this year's Group Travel Roadshow. The objective of the guide is to promote awareness of North East England's group travel product, promote the region as a group travel destination and to help drive coach passengers into the region. The production of the guide has increased to 4,000 and will be distributed to 2,500 key trade contacts. The Groups Guide is supported by a marketing campaign featuring regional and national advertising within travel trade media and will be distributed at trade exhibitions, workshops and roadshows. For further information please contact Denise Wigham.

Group Travel Roadshows

The first of this year's Group Travel Roadshows recently took place at the National Trust's Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Water Gardens near Ripon. The event attracted a record number of exhibitors including hoteliers, attractions, destinations and support services. Over 60 key group travel decision makers attended the event to find out what North East England can offer their groups. The next roadshow is being held on 17th November at the Tate Liverpool featuring The Beatles Story, with the final event being held at the spectacular Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire. To exhibit at the show contact Steve Reed on 01434 634 114 or email steve@stevereedtourism.co.uk

VISITOR SERVICES UNIT

Desti.ne Taking Off

More and more visitors want to book and pay for accommodation and attractions tickets on line. Meeting that increasing demand is at the forefront of the development and rollout of Desti.ne, the region's new e-business platform.

But Desti.ne will not just benefit visitors; it is also an exciting facility for both tourism businesses and tourism organisations. It provides a business improvement tool that will help businesses to grow and be more profitable.

It enables businesses and tourism organisations to make better use of marketing to help the region meet current and future customer trends and expectations. It will provide valuable statistical information about the region's tourism offer that will be useful to businesses and tourism professionals.

Almost 50 businesses are already taking full advantage of the benefits Desti.ne Frontdesk provides. To sign up for Desti.ne Frontdesk, or to see what it has to offer, call Eviivo on 0800 422 0088 or e-mail destinefrontdesk@eviivo.com.

Together with the Area Tourism Partnerships, a series of Desti.ne Awareness sessions for tourism organisations have been arranged - more details from Asif Latif

BUSINESS SERVICES UNIT

Cruising!

The cruise industry is the fastest growing segment of the global tourism industry.

North East England is already performing well in this market with cruise visits to the region well ahead of target. Port of Tyne has handled 19 cruise ships this year and already have 23 vessels provisionally booked for 2007.

To enable North East England to build on its current success, One NorthEast is launching a Cruise Tourism Action Plan on November 13. The Action Plan sets out some key activities, and by working with regional partners and cruise professionals, One NorthEast aims to improve the cruise offer within the region. The activities in the Action Plan include specific cruise marketing - including attendance at exhibitions, events and trade missions; product development; regional familiarisation visits for the cruise sector; and a new cruise specific website.

For more information on the Cruise Action Plan contact Mandy France.
