INTERNATIONAL MARKETING ACTIVITY

DFDS Summer Campaign in Norway

The region’s first ever joint campaign with DFDS Seaways drew to a close last weekend with a four page direct mailer sent to 40,000 potential visitors who have previously expressed an interest in the North of England.

The four-week campaign also included press advertising in national and regional newspapers, outdoor bus advertising in Bergen and Stavanger, and online interactive banners. Click here for examples of artwork.

Telephone interviews will be conducted with people who have received the direct mailer to evaluate their perceptions of North East England before and after receiving the communications and their future intentions to visit. DFDS estimate that 2000 additional journeys have already been booked for this Summer.

In June, North East England hosted 9 DFDS sales and marketing staff for a familiarisation visit. Following the success of this, North East England has been added onto the itinerary for a September press trip that was originally solely focussed on Scotland.

Expanding the Web of Opportunities

Since September 2006 the New Media development team have been using the Desti.ne e-business platform to publish a suite of tourism websites for the region. A total of 8 websites have been developed by the team ranging from the Area Tourism Partnerships sites to the recently launched Cycling, Gardens and Walking sites. Tourism providers now have more online channels to promote their business making the online promotion of North East England businesses more effective than ever before.

One Million Pages Served

In May the total number of unique visitors across all the websites exceeded 100,000 with 1,000,000 pages viewed by visitors. On average each visitor viewed 13 pages per visit on www.visitnortheastengland.com alone.
