Tourism Marketing Update - 02.09.05

2nd September 2005

Walking Campaign

Following the successful launch of the 2nd walking guide we have received well over 2000 requests for the guide and over 10,000 unique visitors to our website.  The advertising campaign includes inserts and advertising in key national and regional publications and walking magazines during August, September and early October.

The campaign highlights walks and a variety of attractions and things to do around the route, with the aim of encouraging people to enjoy a full day out in the region.

Walks featured in the first and second phase of the campaign can be viewed on www.visitnorthumbria.com/walking. This is an ongoing campaign and we will continue to source new walks for future phases of the campaign.

National Advertising Campaign

This campaign is ongoing at present and will run for another week.  It has used a combination of online activity, 1.5 million inserts and high profile display advertising in key national and specialist publications to encourage visitors to the region during the summer months.

To date the campaign has generated 9684 requests for the holiday guide.

Autumn / Winter Campaign

We have written to all regional accommodation self catering and serviced accommodation providers asking them to become involved in this campaign.

The campaign will promote North East England accommodation special offers through a combination of reader offer articles and inserts in national and regional press, targeted emails and direct mail.  It will be backed up by a designated information site on our website, which will encourage consumers to contact the accommodation providers directly.

The campaign will start in early October and run through to March 2006.  Anyone interested in being involved in the campaign should return their form by 19th September 2005.

Holiday and Short Breaks Guide 2006

Work is well underway on the production of the 2006 Holiday and Short Breaks Guide. The guide will promote North East England as a destination for short breaks and longer holidays and will feature the region's accommodation and attractions. We will be printing 180,000 copies of the guide and it will be promoted heavily throughout 2006, with a high profile Christmas/New Year launch. If you wish to speak to someone directly about advertising opportunities in the 2006 guide please contact Mick Hall on 07836 333 203.
