Text description of the project map

The map above shows the subregions in North East England with the sub-regional partnership projects highlighted.  The subregions are:

  • Northumberland, a large area taking up the north of the region.  Major towns include Berwick upon Tweed, Alnwick, Morpeth and Hexham.
  • Tyne and Wear, a smaller area south of Northumberland and bordering the coast.  Major cities include Newcastle and Sunderland, with Newcastle International Airport located just outside Newcastle.
  • County Durham, a region stretching east to west south of both Northumberland and Tyne and Wear.  Major towns include Durham and Bishop Auckland.
  • The Tees Valley region in the extreme south-east of the region.  Major towns include Darlington, Hartlepool and Middlesborough.  Durham Tees Valley airport is located outside Darlington.

The sub-regional partnership projects are located as follows:

  • The Stanley Bus Station project is based at Stanley, in the north of County Durham
  • The Greenhouse is also based in the north of County Durham
  • Beamish Open Air Museum is based outside Chester-le-Street, north County Durham
  • Durham City Vision is centered on Durham City
  • NetPark is based at Sedgefield, in the south of County Durham
  • The BoHo is located in Middlesborough, in the south east of the Tees Valley region
  • The Pedestrian Heart is located in Darlington, the south of the Tees Valley region
  • The Town Centre Renaissance and Art Gallery is located in Middlesborough, in the south east of the Tees Valley region
  • Digital City is based in Middlesborough, in the south-east of the Tees Valley region
