Stanley Bus Station

One NorthEast has invested £2.4 million through the County Durham Sub-Regional Programme in Derwentside District Council’s ambitious scheme to improve and rationalise Stanley’s public transport hub, linking a revitalised bus station with the town centre.

The project involves the acquisition of key properties, the rebuilding of the bus station and the creation of new pedestrian links to the heart of the town centre.

The redesigned bus station, incorporating environmental and energy sustainability principles including "grey water" recycling and photovoltaic tiling, was completed in early 2006.  It now offers a purpose-built glass fronted facility with access bays, lay-over spaces, newsagent and taxi kiosks, all covered by a CCTV system.
