Durham NetPark
The North East Technology Park (NETPark) at Sedgefield is a primary development focus of the County Durham Economic Partnership benefiting from funding support from One NorthEast through the Single Programme.
It is being developed by County Durham Development Company (the development arm of Durham County Council) as the hub for knowledge based businesses and activity in County Durham with the aim of attracting, nurturing and supporting technology driven research, development and manufacturing companies.
NETPark harnesses the involvement of Durham University and other universities in the north-east region as well as having the support of key economic development agencies including One NorthEast, Durham County Council and Sedgefield Borough Council.
A consultant team led by David Lock Associates have prepared a 20-year masterplan for the 90-hectare site. The development framework, supplemented by a detailed Design Code and User Policy, incorporates the highest possible design and sustainability standards for future developments and will ensure that a technology park is created with a worldwide reputation as a great place to invest, to work and to live.
NETPark is already home to the NETPark Incubator, which provides incubation and grow-on space for Science and R&D based businesses, and the NETPark Research Institute which houses Durham University’s Centre for Advanced Instrumentation (CfAI) and Institute for Agility and Digital Enterprise Technology (IADET).
Helios Properties were formally appointed as the preferred developer for NETPark in 2005 and 2006 is due to see work start on site on the second phase of the successful Incubator facility, the development of a Business Village and the construction of a Plastic Electronics Technology Centre.
