Digital City

DigitalCity is a flagship development which will put the Tees Valley at the cutting edge of digital technology.

It was established by One NorthEast, the University of Teesside and Middlesbrough Council to realise the area’s potential to generate and sustain a fast growing, high level economic base in the creative and digital sector for the region.

It consists of two main components: The Institute of Digital Innovation (IDI) and the Boho Zone.

Institute of Digital Innovation (IDI)

The IDI facility, based within the £12m Phoenix Centre in Middlesbrough, was launched to nurture the potential of digital academics, providing them with the support they need to become leading regional entrepreneurs.

Phase One of the project was completed at the end of March 2008, and with an additional £1.4m of funding from One NorthEast, Phase Two, which will allow the IDI to establish itself a successful business facility, is now underway.

Boho Zone

Boho is the region’s answer to the creative quarters of London and New York and provides business space for new digital and creative companies to grow, network and do business.

Work recently started on Boho One, the £10m flagship building of the development which is a central element of the Middlehaven project. One NorthEast chairman Margaret Fay officially kick-started the project, which will be one of three core buildings within the Boho Zone.

Boho will offer a fostering approach to those people who have gained their qualifications, by providing a community facility to help their businesses grow.
