Events

A number of events will be held throughout the year. The aim of these events will be to provide opportunities for participants in the Simulation Project to network and learn from other organisations. The events will also enable the project team to feedback on experiences and the Performance Table.

Recruitment Day

A recruitment day took place at Ramside Hall on Tuesday 2 June.

The purpose of this event was to encourage regional companies and organisations to sign up to the CRC Simulation Project.

Speakers from TNEI and One North East  provided potential participants with background information concerning the CRC and the regional CRC Simulation Project. The sessions outlined the benefits of participating in the CRC Simulation Project.

To register your interest in attending future recruitment days please email stating your name, company and contact information to Louise Hodges on louise.hodges@tnei.co.uk

Training Day

A training day was held at TNEI's offices on 17th June. Four sessions were held during the day. Each session provided participants with further detail about the level of data required, how to collect, collate and report that data, to provide an outline of how data will be used in the Performance Table and quarterly reviews.

In addition to this participants received information about the level of assistance available to help individual companies indentify and collect data and prepare Carbon Management Plans and quarterly reports.

For those companies who did not attend the above training day, help and advice is available directly from the CRC team at TNEI.

Networking Events

These events will be designed to enable participants to meet others to share their experiences and to learn from each other at informal networking events.

The proposal is to hold these events after work at TNEI’s offices and to provide drinks and a buffet. The event will be hosted by the CRC Simulation Project Director who will provide a progress report to those attending.

There will be an opportunity to ask the project team specific questions regarding the project itself or wider CRC issues, as well as to network with other organisations affected by the CRC.

Networking Day 1:  Tuesday 8 September

The first networking duty outlined the plan for the project and the requirements from each participant.

In addition to this the First League Table was published based on calculating the participants Early Action Metric. From this it was evident that 25% of participants have some level of Early Action Metric (principally AMR), only 7% had both Carbon Trust Standard and AMR. In summary 3 out of 4 companies will score zero on the Early Action Metric.

Networking Day 2:  Tuesday 15 December

The second networking day provided participants with an overview of the Early Action Metrics and had speakers covering the Carbon Trust Standard, BSI Kitemark Scheme and Automatic Meter Reading. This event was very kindly hosted by Northern Rock.

TNEI published the Second League Table at this event. The table was calculated using the energy data for each participant and their Early Action Metric scores, and also included the metrics for Performance and Growth in line with the CRC Guidelines. The weightings for the metrics followed the CRC guidelines and all participants were requested to provide the relevant information. Where this was not forthcoming a zero ranking was given.

Networking Day 3:  Tuesday 3 March

The main speaker at this event were KPMG who spoke about carbon audits, governance and lessons they have learnt from work with clients and other simulations in other regions.  This was a practical guide to some of the potential pitfalls of data collection and reporting.

In addition One North East provided some feedback regarding their future plans and TNEI advised on progress of Carbon Reduction North East to date, the third trade that took place in February, preparation for the fourth trade in March and the final few weeks of the simulation.

Templates

Participants in the CRC Simulation Project are requested to provide the project team with information about their baseline energy use. To assist all participants a number of templates have been developed to provide a framework for data collection.

Please contact the CRC team for electronic copies of the templates. These will be sent out to you along with worked examples for your information. Once you have collected the data please email this back to the project team.

Once completed all data should be emailed back to the project team at crc@tnei.co.uk

Trading

Organisations will be given an opportunity to experience Carbon Trading activities through a purpose built on-line auction site. All organisations participating in the Carbon Reduction North East project will be encouraged to take part in the trading to enable them to understand the mechanics of buying and selling Carbon Allowances.

There are four Trading Sessions.

These sessions will be held in October 2009, December 2009, February 2010 and March 2010.

Organisations will be given two weeks notification of the Trading sessions to allow them to collect and submit data and 'lots'.

For the Carbon Reduction North East exercise 'Carbon Allowances' will be grouped into lots. Details of those lots will be available to registered buyers who will be able to access the secure auction site using a unique username and password.

The auctions operate on a simple 'English Auction' system whereby buyers enter a bid for individual lots. Once the bid has been entered it is binding and can only be displaced if another buyer enters a higher bid within a certain timeframe (the bidding window). If no competing bidder challenges the standing bid within the bidding window, the lot is awarded. If a higher bid is entered within the specified timeframe, the bidding window restarts.

The Third and Fourth Trading events have been designed so that participants can buy and sell allowances.

Feedback

The region recognises that the introduction of the CRC will have a major impact on North East companies and organisations. One North East are keen to use the CRC Simulation Project as a means of gauging the regional requirement for ongoing support to companies and organisations once the CRC is in place.

Support may be in the form of training, CRC programme advice, the provision of information or other support measures identified.

If you have any suggestions that the CRC Simulation project Team can put forward to One North East please download and complete the attached form and return it crc@tnei.co.uk
