In response to the introduction of the CRC, One North East has provided funding for a 12 month project to help 50 regional companies prepare for the CRC via a Simulation project.
The CRC Simulation Project will allow businesses in the region to learn about the CRC scheme through practical experience and learn from shared experience.
The outcomes of the Simulation will assist One North East shape future business support programmes for companies who are participating in the CRC.
About the project
The project aims to recruit 50 of the North East’s organisations to participate in a Simulation of the CRC. The project will run from April 2009 to March 2010 thus providing a transition phase to the start of the CRC in April 2010.
The project has been designed to help companies indentify and embed the practical mechanics of data collection, reporting and production of Carbon Management Plans.
In addition to this the project aims to provide real learning opportunities for participants so that companies fully understand the financial, resource and practical implications of the CRC in practice.
The CRC Simulation Project aims to work with private sector companies and public sector organisations (local authorities, police, and Higher Education organisations) to provide them with first hand experience of the requirements of the CRC.
If you used 6,000MWh of electricity in 2008 and are metered on a half hourly basis then you will fall into the CRC. Your participation in the CRC Simulation Project will provide you with a valuable insight into the true impacts that this will have on your organisation and will enable you prepare for the ‘real thing’ by learning with and from other organisations.
What’s in it for you?
The CRC Simulation Project will assist regional companies through a simulation of the carbon trading process over a 12 month period. The benefits to you of participating include:
- the provision of baseline energy data for 2008/2009 period
- the preparation of a Carbon Management Plan for 2009/2010
- participation in a ‘live/safe’ carbon auction to secure carbon allowances for trading
- regular ‘trading’ opportunities on the open carbon market
There is no cost to companies participating in the CRC Simulation Project. However, we can only support the first 50 organisations to sign up.
The TNEI Project Team will provide some assistance and support to organisations on a one to one basis. However, to get the most out of the simulation exercise, organisations will have to commit time to the regular collection of data and attendance at networking and training days.
Templates will be available to help the data collection process.
